Beyonce’s back with 4, her follow-up to 2008’s I am… Sasha Fierce. Since Sasha, the vocalist announced that she would be killing off her alter ego and merging her disparate personalities to create music that fused all of her influences into a new, unique sound. It’s an ambitious vision but, unfortunately, one that 4 fails to deliver.

Essentially Lady Gaga’s sophomore album (if you don’t count the EPs), "Born This Way" is her first as an international superstar — and in her mind, as queen leader to a needy coven of "little monsters," outsiders who for one reason or another don’t fit into the mainstream.

Lady Gaga is the biggest pop star in the world, and biggest pop stars in the world tend to get violent reactions from the actual pop audience when they diverge. But then, Gaga has made a whole career of diverging, and people seem to already be tired of her sh*t, so who knows how this will go.
